Fuel Prices Hold Steady as GOL Maintains Current Rates

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), has announced that prices for gasoline and diesel will remain unchanged on the Liberian market as of April 8, 2025, despite growing concerns over global energy fluctuations.

In a press release issued Monday, April 7, the Ministry confirmed that the retail pump price for gasoline (PMS) will remain at $3.96 USD or LD 790.00, while the price of diesel, commonly known as fuel oil (AGO), holds at $4.26 USD or LD 850.00. The pricing is based on an exchange rate of LD 198.82 to USD 1.00, consistent with the official rate set by the Central Bank of Liberia.

The decision to maintain current fuel prices comes amid heightened public anxiety over inflation and cost-of-living pressures. Fuel costs are a critical driver of transportation, goods, and services pricing across the country. With this announcement, the government appears determined to prevent a ripple effect on commodity prices and economic stability.

Commerce Ministry officials stressed that a joint Inspectorate Team from the Ministry and LPRC will intensify monitoring to ensure compliance and prevent arbitrary hikes by importers and retailers. The Ministry said it remains committed to enforcing price controls and promoting fair competition in the petroleum market.

The government’s stance also signals an intent to cushion consumers against volatile international oil markets, while safeguarding economic resilience. Stakeholders in the downstream sector have been urged to adhere strictly to the approved ceiling prices as a matter of regulatory compliance and national interest.
