GoL Cuts Cost of Earth-Moving Equipment by Over $20M

The Liberian government has successfully renegotiated the purchase of 285 earth-moving machines, securing a significant cost reduction that will benefit the country’s infrastructure development. A committee headed by Vice President Jeremiah Koung reviewed the deal, focusing on cost, shipping logistics, and equitable distribution across Liberia’s 15 counties. The committee submitted its findings to President Joseph Boakai, assuring the public that the machines would still be delivered in full, despite the significant price cut.

Under the new agreement, the total cost for the equipment has been reduced to $22 million, down from the original estimate of $43 million, resulting in savings of over $20 million for the government. The payment for the equipment will align with the national budget, with the first installment already included in the 2025 fiscal year’s budget. The government plans to complete the payments within the next two years.

Minister of Information Jerolinmek Piah confirmed that the first batch of equipment will be released after the first payment is made, with subsequent deliveries to follow as the government fulfills its financial obligations. Each of Liberia’s 15 counties will receive 19 pieces of equipment, which will help to improve road construction and infrastructure across the nation.
