In a significant step toward improving the country’s power infrastructure, the Government of Liberia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ghanaian Electricity Corporation. The agreement addresses Liberia’s persistent electricity supply challenges and will extend power access to more regions across the country.
Deputy Information Minister Daniel Sando announced, highlighting that the MOU will significantly enhance the country’s power grid and bring electricity to underserved areas. This initiative is part of Liberia’s broader strategy to improve energy access and living conditions for its citizens, which has been a key priority for the government.
Minister Sando disclosed that the MOU includes provisions for conducting critical electricity studies along a 173-kilometer stretch, set to begin in January. These studies will assess the feasibility of expanding the national grid and extending power to regions lacking reliable electricity services.
The government is also making strides in infrastructure development as part of this effort. The Ministry of Public Works is set to begin the construction of 273 kilometers of roads along the Buchanan-Sinoe Highway. This project will complement the electricity expansion plans and improve regional connectivity.
