Nimba County Superintendent Ma Kou Meapeh Gono has commended First Lady Kartumu Y. Boakai for selecting Nimba County among the first five counties to benefit from the “Her Voice, Her Future” initiative, a program .. at strengthening adolescent reproductive health clubs and empowering girls across Liberia.
Speaking during the launch of the program in Nimba, Superintendent Gono said the county’s inclusion reflects what she described as the First Lady’s commitment to advancing the welfare and development of young people, particularly girls.
She noted that the first phase of the initiative is expected to reach approximately 12,000 participants nationwide, urging beneficiaries to take the knowledge acquired beyond the training sessions and share it with their peers, schools, and communities.
Superintendent Gono stressed that preparing girls for leadership must begin early, arguing that increased women’s representation in leadership requires deliberate investment in girls’ confidence, knowledge, and skills.
“Women’s representation begins with empowering girls from an early age,” Superintendent Gono emphasized.
She also highlighted what she described as the rapid transformation of participants following just two days of training, particularly their increased confidence and ability to speak publicly.
According to her, the development demonstrates the potential of targeted leadership and empowerment programs to equip young girls with skills needed to participate more effectively in public life.
Superintendent Gono credited the facilitators for creating an environment that encouraged participants to build confidence and develop leadership skills.
She further assured the Office of the First Lady of the county administration’s commitment to supporting the initiative and working toward expanding the program to additional participants and institutions across Nimba County.
The “Her Voice, Her Future” initiative is focused on expanding adolescent reproductive health clubs while creating platforms through which girls can gain knowledge, build confidence, and develop leadership capacity.
