Unofficial provisional results from Tuesday’s by-election in Nimba Electoral District #5 show independent candidate Bories B. Barlea taking an early lead over Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) candidate Kortor Kwagrue at the Frolay Public School precinct—located in the hometown of incumbent Senator Samuel Kogar.
Barlea, who is running as an independent, appears to be gaining momentum in this key stronghold. At all four polling places within the Frolay Public School precinct, he has maintained a consistent edge over his main rival.
Below are the unofficial tallies from the four polling places:
Polling Place 1:
Barlea – 195 votes
Kwagrue – 114 votes
Polling Place 2:
Barlea – 176 votes
Kwagrue – 128 votes
Polling Place 3:
Barlea – 109 votes
Kwagrue – 82 votes
Polling Place 4:
Barlea – 129 votes
Kwagrue – 74 votes
These preliminary figures suggest strong local support for Barlea, despite MDR’s political influence in the region and the endorsement of Kwagrue by Senator Kogar himself.
The District #5 by-election has attracted significant attention, with observers noting the potential implications for party politics in Nimba County ahead of the next general elections.
