Monrovia, Liberia – Police Spokesperson Madam Cecelia Clarke has dismissed widespread rumors suggesting a personal relationship between alleged armed robbery suspect Fobay Emery Johnson and Ecobank teller Angeline Alove Sillah.
Speaking on The Class Reloaded talk show in Monrovia, Madam Clarke stated unequivocally that there is no connection between the two individuals.
“They do not know each other from anywhere. They have not had any prior interaction either,” she said, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified claims that could jeopardize the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The allegations surfaced following a dramatic armed robbery incident at Ecobank on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Johnson, the prime suspect in the case, was captured on CCTV in a widely circulated video engaged in a struggle while armed with what appeared to be a single-barrel gun.
Ecobank, a longstanding partner in Liberia’s banking sector, has not released an official statement regarding the incident or the claims linking the suspect to one of its employees.
The Liberia National Police continue their investigation into the attempted robbery, and authorities have asked the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
