MONROVIA, Liberia — Criminal Court “C” Judge Osuman Feikai has denied former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor’s request for bail. Taylor is facing criminal charges linked to the seizure of drugs valued at more than US$317 million.
Taylor’s legal team had withdrawn an earlier request for a preliminary examination and instead asked the court to grant her bail pending the continuation of the case.
The former Vice President is facing several charges, including importation of controlled drugs, unlicensed exportation of controlled drugs and substances, unlawful sale and transportation of controlled substances, illicit trafficking, criminal conspiracy, criminal facilitation, criminal solicitation, money laundering and aiding the consummation of a crime.
The latest bail motion sought to establish formal conditions that would allow Taylor to remain outside detention while the case proceeds.
With Judge Feikai’s denial of the bail motion, Taylor remains subject to the court’s existing orders as the criminal case moves forward.
