Judge Willie Fines Rep. Enders and Attorney Kowou for Courtroom Disruption

Criminal Court ‘A’ Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie has fined Montserrado County District #6 Representative Samuel Enders and Attorney Gbawou Kowou for their involvement in a disruptive incident that unfolded at the Paynesville Magisterial Court.

The altercation, which escalated into physical and verbal confrontations, prompted the intervention of court authorities and led to the suspension of proceedings.

The case arose following a complaint filed by Stipendiary Magistrate William G. Saygbah, who accused Representative Enders of exhibiting unruly behavior by allegedly bringing over 20 individuals described as “thugs” to the Court to remove and assault Attorney Kowou forcibly. The incident occurred during a session by Magistrate Saygbah and involved heated exchanges between the parties.

The confrontation reportedly began when Attorney Kowou objected to a statement referring to Representative Enders as a “Reverend” or “Pastor.” Kowou asserted that the lawmaker had publicly disclaimed such titles, which led to a verbal altercation. Magistrate Saygbah intervened, instructing Kowou to leave the courtroom. However, Representative Enders allegedly blocked the exit and called for his security team, escalating the situation.

According to court documents, Enders summoned approximately 20 individuals to the court premises. These individuals entered the courtroom, causing a commotion and allegedly assaulting court personnel, including Clerk Hector Dolo. Witnesses, such as Counselor Sandra Howard, who was present at the scene, recounted the chaotic events and provided video evidence supporting claims of violence and misconduct.

After reviewing evidence and testimonies, Judge Willie ruled that both parties were culpable. Attorney Kowou was fined USD 100 for initiating the conflict, while Representative Enders was fined USD 150 for escalating the situation and disrupting court proceedings. Both fines are to be paid to the Judiciary Accounts by January 21, 2025, with noncompliance potentially leading to further legal consequences.

The fines reflect the judiciary’s determination to maintain order and uphold the integrity of the legal process. Judge Willie emphasized that both parties’ actions undermined the Court’s authority and disrupted its operations.

This incident has drawn significant attention as a stark reminder of the importance of decorum and respect for judicial proceedings. The case remains suspended pending payment of the fines and further resolution.
