Kogar Takes the Crown, Wins Nimba County Senate Seat with Over 52% of Votes

Nimba County, Liberia – The National Elections Commission (NEC) has confirmed Representative Samuel Gongben Kogar as the newly-elected Senator of Nimba County, following the release of the full consolidated results from the April 2025 senatorial by-election in Nimba County. The NEC Progressive Tally Report (Form ET-04) issued Thursday afternoon, revealed that Kogar, running on the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) ticket, secured a decisive victory with 62,136 votes, representing 52.08% of the valid ballots.Kogar’s nearest rival, Edith Lianue Gongloe-Weh, an independent candidate and former superintendent of Nimba County, received 40,506 votes or 33.95%, cementing her position as a strong political contender but falling short of the win.The remaining candidates finished as follows:B. Mack Gblinwon (CMC): 7,489 votes (6.28%)Garrison D. Yealue Jr. (IND): 5,513 votes (4.62%)Richard Matenokay Tingban (VOLT): 1,557 votes (1.31%)George Parkinson Gonpu (ADML): 1,114 votes (0.93%)Torbor Tee Wonokay Farngalo (IND): 987 votes (0.83%)

A total of 119,302 valid votes were cast, with 3,010 invalid ballots, making the overall vote count 122,312 across all 736 polling places—a 100% reporting rate.Kogar, a sitting lawmaker in the House of Representatives representing electoral District #5 in Nimba, and a government-backed candidate is now celebrating the outcome of the election results in Sanniquellie, where he pledged to “elevate Nimba’s development priorities and champion the voice of the people in the Liberian Senate.”Election observers praised the process in Nimba for being orderly, inclusive, and transparent. Even though voter turnout at the early stage on Election Day was low, but citizens came out, reflecting their strong commitment to civic engagement in the county.

With this victory, Kogar replaces outgoing Senator Prince Y. Johnson, following his passing in 2024 marking a significant shift in Nimba’s political landscape.
