Suspended Deputy Superintendent of the Monrovia Central Prison (MCP), Jackson K. Kolako, has raised concerns about security around the facility following a Verity News report about three unidentified boats reportedly docking behind the prison without visible crew members.
Kolako’s comments come amid heightened security concerns surrounding the detention of individuals linked to Liberia’s high-profile drug investigation, including alleged Colombian and Spanish nationals and other suspects.
A few weeks ago, Kolako had reportedly raised concerns about an alleged planned conspiracy involving a possible jailbreak at South Beach, where the prison is located.
In a recent statement, accompanied by boat emojis, Kolako said changing security conditions require corresponding adjustments in security measures.
He recalled previously recommending that individuals connected to the “million-dollar drug investigation” be transferred to a more secure facility away from the current environment.
Although he said the recommendation was not fully implemented, Kolako welcomed increased security at MCP, including the deployment of additional Liberia National Police officers and the involvement of Armed Forces of Liberia personnel alongside correctional officers.
“Security is stronger when institutions work together,” Kolako said, commending the vigilance and cooperation among security personnel.
His remarks come as questions continue to surround the reported presence of unidentified boats near the prison and the security implications for the facility.
