MONROVIA, Liberia — Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah has claimed that lawmakers received checks of US$21,000 each from the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), reportedly as part of benefits they are demanding.
According to Kolubah, each lawmaker received the amount on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, despite lawmakers reportedly demanding US$65,000 in benefits.
Based on the lawmaker’s account, payments to 72 lawmakers would total US$1.512 million.
Kolubah further alleged that the disbursement followed a boycott of the first day of work by more than 50 members of the House of Representatives.
However, the purpose of the reported payments, their official authorization, and whether all 72 lawmakers received the checks have not been independently verified.
Further clarification from the Central Bank of Liberia and the House of Representatives would be necessary to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged disbursement.
