Nimba Junction, Rivercess County – An aide of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) assigned to the Timbo Bridge Checkpoint in Rivercess County has been arrested with a large quantity of Kush.
Aaron Blayee, who serves as an LDEA aide, was apprehended on Thursday, November 21, 2024, alongside two other individuals—Opa M. Garway, a motorbike rider, and Musa Jallah, a 30-year-old Gambian national—at the Nimba Junction Checkpoint.
LDEA Commander for Rivercess County, George Kermukai, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the drugs in Blayee’s possession were valued at US$4,800, emphasizing the seriousness of the issue. “This is a serious issue, and we are committed to investigating the matter fully,” Kermukai said.
Kermukai reiterated that his mission in the county aligns with President Joseph Boakai’s initiative to eliminate drug-related activities, and he assured the public that Blayee would face investigation and prosecution under the law.
Blayee’s two companions, Garway and Jallah, however, denied any knowledge of the drugs. In interviews with Verity News, both men claimed that their bags had been searched multiple times at various checkpoints before they were stopped at the Nimba Junction Checkpoint, where they had boarded Blayee, who had come from the Timbo Checkpoint. They insisted that they were unaware of the drugs in Blayee’s possession.
In contrast, Blayee admitted to having the drugs but refused to disclose any details about their origin or intended destination. When questioned by reporters, Blayee did not explain transporting such a large quantity of drugs.
The arrest has raised concerns within the local community, sparking fears about the involvement of law enforcement officers in illegal activities. The LDEA has vowed to take swift action to investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are held accountable under the law.
