Liberia’s most celebrated soccer star, James Debbah, has accused former President George M. Weah of disrespecting the late Nancy Doe family.
Debbah made the statement on Monday, June 9, 2025, when he appeared on the pro-government nighttime radio show “The Class Reloaded.”
The former Lone Star player expressed his disappointment in former President Weah’s alleged actions to deny the Doe’s family their just benefit.
“I think the former President George Weah treated the late Nancy Doe family with disrespect,” Debbah said.
This statement has ignited a heated debate, given Weah’s influential role in Liberian politics and sports.
James Debbah and George Weah share a familial connection, with Debbah being Weah’s cousin.
Despite their family ties, Debbah had previously supported Weah’s opponents, citing a lack of political experience.
However, in August 2023, Debbah surprisingly endorsed Weah’s re-election bid, stating that everyone must take a side in the election.
