NEW YORK, September 24, 2026 — A group of Liberians gathered at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and outside the hotel where President Joseph Nyuma Boakai was staying, calling for stronger action against drug abuse, police brutality and what they described as injustice in Liberia.
The protesters chanted, “Our children are dying every day,” and “No to drugs,” as they called on the United Nations to hear their concerns.
The demonstrators also raised concerns about the country’s drug crisis and demanded action from Liberian authorities.
During the protest, some participants called for the removal of Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman, repeatedly chanting, “Gregory must go.”
Some protesters also accused Coleman of involvement in drug-related activities. Those allegations were made by the demonstrators and have not been established as facts.
The protesters further called for an end to what they described as police brutality and demanded greater accountability from security authorities.
“Our children are dying. Our women are dying. The youth are dying,” protesters chanted, urging stronger action against drug abuse and related problems affecting communities in Liberia.
The demonstration took place ahead of President Boakai’s address to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
