Monrovia, Liberia – Jophelia F. Quayee, President of Children Voices and head of Liberia’s Children Parliament, has delivered a stirring call to action directed at national leaders and the ECOWAS community.
In a live broadcast on ECOWAS Radio 91.5, Quayee urged governments to take bold and immediate steps to tackle the growing challenges facing children across the region.
“I am here today not only as the President of Children Voices,” Quayee declared, “but as a voice for the aspirations of children in Liberia and throughout the ECOWAS region.”
Quayee highlighted poverty, child labor, poor healthcare, and lack of access to quality education as major issues impeding children’s development.
She stressed that many children are deprived of safe and nurturing environments, which significantly hampers their ability to thrive.
“Despite some progress,” she warned, “countless children remain overlooked, their voices silenced, and their experiences untold.”
In her address, Quayee outlined a five-point agenda, urging both government officials and regional stakeholders to take coordinated action.
Strengthening Child Protection Laws
She called for stricter enforcement of child protection legislation and the introduction of tougher penalties for abuse and neglect, along with expanded support for affected children.
Expanding Access to Education and Training – She emphasized the need for increased government investment in education, enhanced teacher training, and broader access to vocational learning.
Prioritizing Children’s Health
Quayee advocated for improved health programs focused on immunization, nutrition, and mental health services for children.
Engaging Communities
She encouraged the promotion of community-based initiatives such as awareness campaigns and workshops to build safer environments for children.
Creating Family Economic Opportunities–She urged support for job creation and small business development to alleviate the economic hardships that often lead to child labor
Addressing both government and international development partners, Quayee emphasized the urgent need for sustainable financial backing.
“Children Voices is dedicated to reaching more children and amplifying their voices,” she said, “but we cannot accomplish this alone.”
She added that investing in children is not just an act of charity but a strategic decision for regional growth and stability. “Your investment in our vision is an investment in the future of Liberia and the entire ECOWAS region.”
Quayee concluded with a heartfelt appeal for unity and collective action. “Let us join forces-to build a brighter future for us children. Our dedication today will resonate in the lives of generations to come.”
