Monrovia-Liberia: After nearly four years of internal conflict that hindered its growth and development, the Liberty Party has ended its bitter divisions. The resolution was showcased during the party’s national convention on Saturday, which gathered stakeholders and supporters from across Liberia.
The atmosphere at the event was filled with laughter, conversations, hugs, and parades as members celebrated their newfound unity. The convention marked a significant shift in the political landscape, signaling the party’s forward momentum.
Since the death of its former political leader, Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, the Liberty Party had struggled with internal conflicts and division, which prevented it from achieving its full potential. The party could not present a unified front during the 2023 Presidential and Representative elections when political parties were expected to be organized and cohesive.
A leadership struggle further split the party into two factions, each led by Representative Musa Bility, with both claiming legitimacy. However, after nearly four years of unresolved conflict, the Liberty Party has now turned a new page by announcing the long-awaited convening of its national convention.
At a press conference in Congo Town, LP’s Political Leader, Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence, revealed that 120 delegates from across Liberia will participate in the gathering. She described the event as a crucial step toward unifying the party’s fractured ranks and rebuilding trust among its members.
“This convention marks the culmination of our reconciliation process, a pivotal moment in our journey toward unity, strength, and renewed purpose,” Senator Karngar-Lawrence said. She emphasized that the event would serve as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and collective decision-making to shape the party’s future.
The Liberty Party has been plagued by disputes for nearly four years, resulting in a leadership crisis and deep divisions. The upcoming convention is an opportunity to settle lingering issues and reestablish LP as a powerful force in Liberia’s political landscape.
“As we come together as one Liberty Party family, this is a time to celebrate progress, reaffirm our commitment, and chart a course for a stronger, more united party,” Karngar-Lawrence asserted.
