MONROVIA – The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), has shut down The Grace of God Medical Clinic located on 9th Street in Sinkor, due to severe violations of medical standards that pose a significant risk to public health.
The closure was part of a coordinated operation, which also included an outreach to the local community, educating residents about the dangers of substandard medical practices and urging them to report any suspicious activities related to healthcare.
John Bass Golokeh, Deputy Director for Public Safety at the Ministry of Justice, expressed his disappointment with the facility’s conditions during the inspection. “The room they are referring to as an operating room is not fit for any form of medical treatment. Even I would not make the mistake of seeking treatment here, nor would I use the bathroom,” Golokeh said.
The investigation uncovered shocking deficiencies in medical care at the clinic. A patient in labor was found unattended, with no midwife present, highlighting the lack of adequate healthcare staffing. The dire situation prompted Joseph Colmah, Director of Medical and Research at the Clinical Department, to arrange for the immediate transfer of the laboring patient to the JFK Maternity Center for proper care. Another patient was urgently transported to the JFK Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment.
As a result of these alarming findings, the LMDC and MOJ issued an immediate closure order for The Grace of God Medical Clinic, emphasizing the importance of enforcing health regulations to protect public safety. The authorities reiterated their commitment to holding medical facilities accountable for meeting the required health standards.
The LMDC and Ministry of Justice continue to call on the public to stay vigilant and report any illegal or unsafe medical practices to help ensure the well-being of Liberians.
