Monrovia—The Liberia National Police (LNP) says it has launched an investigation into a viral video showing the alleged assault, harassment and degrading treatment of a woman in the Red Light in Paynesville.
The police condemned the incident, describing it as mob violence and public vigilantism that violates human rights, dignity and the rule of law. The LNP stressed that no individual or group has the authority to administer punishment outside the legal system.
It emphasized that all allegations of wrongdoing must be handled through lawful investigative and judicial processes, and that suspects are entitled to due process under Liberian law.
The LNP said it is working to identify and arrest those involved, while also taking steps to ensure the safety and protection of the victim.
The police have called on the public to assist with information and to avoid spreading unverified content or inciting violence that could hinder investigations.
