LNP Issues Strong Warning Over Growing Non-Support Trend In Grand Gedeh

By D. Abraham Cooper Sr.

ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh — The Liberia National Police (LNP), through its Women and Children Protection Division, has issued a strong warning to men across Grand Gedeh County following a sharp increase in persistent non-support cases since the beginning of 2026.

According to the division, there has been a troubling surge in reports of men abandoning their partners and children, leaving women and young girls to shoulder both the financial and emotional burden of broken households.

Inspector Othello T. Saygbe disclosed that the division has been overwhelmed with complaints involving men who fail to provide basic necessities for their dependents. He noted that many cases involve boyfriends who disappear or refuse to take responsibility after fathering children or establishing domestic relationships.

“If you know you cannot support a woman, do not engage her,” Inspector Saygbe warned. “We are seeing too many cases of abandonment that leave vulnerable citizens in dire straits.”

The LNP is urging men to immediately desist from such acts of neglect. Inspector Saygbe stressed that authorities will no longer tolerate what he described as a growing culture of persistent non-support, which is placing significant strain on the county’s social fabric. He cautioned that those found culpable will face legal consequences.

Despite the rise in domestic neglect cases, the police highlighted progress in other areas of public safety. Authorities reported a significant reduction in incidents of sexual assault across the county, attributing the improvement to increased public cooperation and law-abiding behavior.

Inspector Saygbe concluded by reminding citizens that financial responsibility toward one’s family is a legal obligation. He called on all residents to uphold their duties and remain law-abiding in order to sustain peace and stability in Grand Gedeh County.
