SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

2025 ACADEMIC YEAR EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROGRAM

The National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), through its Corporate Social Responsibility Department, is pleased to announce its 2024/2025 Scholarship Program for outstanding Liberian students pursuing higher education in critical fields that support national development.
1. PROGRAM OVERVIEW

NOCAL’s 2025 Academic Scholarship Program is a strategic investment in Liberia’s human capital development and energy sector growth. This initiative reflects our commitment to empowering the next generation of Liberian professionals through targeted educational support.

Scholarship Opportunities Include:

  1. Domestic Academic Scholarships (15 Awards)
    1. For undergraduate studies at accredited Liberian institutions
    1. Covers all critical disciplines supporting national development.
    1. Prioritizes STEM fields (60% of awards) with balance for other disciplines.
  • International Oil & Gas Specialization Awards (2 Fully Funded Scholarships)
    • For advanced studies at globally ranked institutions
    • Focused exclusively on petroleum industry disciplines.

Program Impact:

  • Directly contributes to NOCAL’s Local Content Development Strategy
  • Aligns with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda
  • Supports the government’s vision for energy sector transformation.
  • Creates pipeline of qualified professionals for Liberia’s emerging oil & gas industry

Selection Priorities:

  • Academic excellence with demonstrated leadership potential.
  • Strong commitment to contributing to Liberia’s development.
  • Gender balance (minimum 40% female recipients)
  • Geographic representation across all counties
2. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
A. Age Requirements
  • Local University Scholarships:
    • Applicants must be between 15-25 years of age as of April 1, 2025
    • Applicants below 15yrs who are enrolled in universities will be considered.
    • Verification required: Birth certificate OR biodata page of passport.
  • International Oil & Gas Scholarships:
    • Graduate programs (Masters): Up to 30 years
    • Exceptions considered for:
      • Mature students with 5+ years industry experience (max 35 years)

B. Academic Criteria

  • For Local Scholarships:
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 (or B equivalent) for Arts/Humanities students
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or B equivalent) for Science/Technology students
  • For International Scholarships (Oil & Gas):
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (or B+ equivalent)
    • Must have a letter of admission to an accredited international university in qualifying petroleum fields:
      • Petroleum Engineering
      • Geosciences (Geology/Geophysics)
      • Energy Economics
      • Petrochemical Engineering
      • Environmental Management for Energy

C. Application Requirements

All applicants must submit:

  1. Formal Application Letter (handwritten or typed)
  2. Complete Application Package including:
    1. Evidence of enrollment/acceptance (admission letter)
    1. Most recent academic transcripts
    1. Copy of WAEC/WASSCE results (undergraduate applicants)
  3. Recommendation Letters (two original copies)
  4. Supporting Documents:
    1. Two recent passport-sized photographs
    1. Proof of Liberian citizenship
    1. Age verification documents
3. SELECTION PROCESS
Phase 1: Document Review
  • Screening for completeness and eligibility
  • Verification of age and academic credentials
Phase 2: Aptitude Testing
  • Shortlisted candidates invited for written examinations.
Phase 3: Interviews
  • Final panel interviews for selection
4. SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
Local University Scholarships:
  • Full tuition coverage for one academic year
  • Monthly stipend of US$ 50.00 for transportation
International Scholarships:
  • Full tuition and accommodation
  • Annual round-trip airfare
  • Health insurance coverage
  • Monthly living allowance

6. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Scholarship awards are renewable annually based on academic performance.
  • Recipients may be required to complete internships at NOCAL.
  • Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
