LPP Holds Major Retreat in Bong, Targets Party Reform and National Policy Issues

By Archie Boan

Gbarnga, Bong County – May 4, 2026 — The Liberian People’s Party (LPP) has concluded a daylong retreat in Gbarnga, bringing together party members, supporters, and allied groups from across the country to reflect on internal reforms and key national concerns.

The gathering drew delegates from all 15 counties, creating a broad platform for discussions focused on strengthening the party’s foundation while also engaging with pressing governance and economic issues affecting Liberia.

A central part of the retreat focused on reviewing the party’s Constitution and Bylaws. Participants examined areas for improvement, aiming to better position the LPP for organizational growth and future political engagement.

Beyond internal matters, the retreat took a critical look at national policy issues. Delegates raised concerns about the operations of concession companies, accusing some of offering extremely low wages while showing little interest in investing in education. According to discussions at the meeting, this trend risks limiting opportunities for Liberian workers and undermining long-term national development.

The forum also addressed legislative and policy developments in key sectors such as education, commerce, and agriculture. Participants emphasized the need for stronger policies that support sustainable growth and improve living conditions across the country.

State-owned enterprises were another major focus. Delegates stressed the importance of increased oversight, transparency, and accountability to ensure these institutions contribute meaningfully to national development.

The retreat further provided an opportunity for reflection on past elections, with members analyzing lessons learned and exploring strategies to strengthen the party ahead of the 2029 general elections.

The LPP described the retreat as part of its ongoing effort to reposition itself as a responsive political force committed to addressing both party and national challenges.
