KOLAHUN, Lofa County – Authorities in Lower Lofa have launched an investigation into the alleged killing of a woman by her son in Porluwu Town, Wanhassa District, on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

The suspect, identified as Vannie Dunor, is accused of fatally attacking his mother with an axe following what witnesses described as unusual behavior.

According to eyewitness Bendu Kamara, Dunor arrived from Popalahun Town and met his mother at her residence. Upon seeing her, he suddenly collapsed and became unconscious. His mother raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to rush to his aid. After regaining consciousness, Dunor reportedly told those present that nothing was wrong but insisted that he did not want to see his mother.

Kamara said Dunor attempted to leave the yard while repeatedly telling his mother to “forget about him.” As she followed him in an effort to understand his behavior, he allegedly picked up an axe and struck her multiple times on the head and face, leaving her critically injured.

Residents rushed the victim to the Bolahun Clinic but were reportedly informed that the facility was closed and medical staff were unavailable. She was later transported to Kolahun Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Liberia National Police have opened an investigation into the incident, and the suspect is expected to be forwarded to court for prosecution.

The killing marks the second reported case in Lofa County within two months in which a child has allegedly used an axe to kill a parent. On May 11, 2026, 21-year-old John K. Ndorbor allegedly killed his father in Yangbalahun, Kolahun District.
