HARPER, Maryland County – Authorities in Maryland County have officially dedicated the MC2 Maryland Community Bank in Harper through Alfredland First Bank of Liberia, restoring banking services to the county capital after years of limited financial access following the departure of several commercial banks.
The dedication ceremony, held Friday at the Maryland Go Round, brought together Maryland County Superintendent Nathaniel S. Toe, Harper District #1 Representative P. Mike Jurry, local government officials, civil servants, youth leaders, cross-border traders, rural women, elders, and residents.
Speaking at the event, Annie Sleewion, a member of the MC2 Maryland Community Bank, revealed that the establishment of the bank followed nearly four years of negotiations with the leadership of Alfredland First Bank of Liberia.
She described the opening of the bank as a significant milestone for Maryland County, noting that it will expand access to financial services, encourage savings, and provide support for local businesses and entrepreneurs.
Also addressing the gathering, Alfredland Morgan, Head of Community Banks Establishment at Alfredland First Bank of Liberia, assured residents of the institution’s long-term commitment to the county.
Morgan said the bank is in Harper to stay and will play a key role in reviving the local economy by providing reliable and accessible banking services.
The opening of the MC2 Maryland Community Bank is expected to improve financial inclusion and stimulate economic activity in Maryland County, where residents have struggled with limited banking services since several commercial banks ceased operations in Harper years ago.
