The Maryland County Health Team on Thursday, March 6, 2025, officially turned over a newly renovated eight-room nursing dormitory at JJ Dossen Hospital, along with breaking ground for a Family Medicine Resident’s Apartment building. The projects aim to improve health infrastructure and provide a more comfortable living environment for healthcare workers.
Partners In Health (PIH) funded the initiatives to support medical training and enhance housing facilities for healthcare professionals in the county. The ceremonies were attended by key stakeholders, including Maryland County Health Officer (CHO) Dr. Siedoh Freeman, JJ Dossen Hospital Medical Director Dr. Bill Davis, PIH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joia Mukherjee from Boston, Maryland County Superintendent Hon. Henry Cole, and the Executive Director of PIH Liberia, Dr. Maxo Luma.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Freeman reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure. “This dormitory and the new apartment project represent a significant step in strengthening our capacity to deliver quality healthcare,” he said.
Dr. Luma emphasized PIH Liberia’s ongoing dedication to advancing medical education and healthcare delivery. “Investing in the well-being of healthcare workers ensures better outcomes for patients and a stronger healthcare system,” he noted.
Local officials, healthcare professionals, and community members attended the ceremony, expressing optimism that the new facilities will attract and retain medical staff while improving healthcare services in the region.
Meanwhil, the Family Medicine Resident’s Apartment building is expected to provide long-term housing solutions for medical professionals, further supporting the county’s efforts to address healthcare challenges and improve service delivery.
