Monrovia, Liberia-The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) has revoked the medical license of Mr. Peter Matthew George, citing failure to provide valid academic credentials required to practice medicine in the Republic of Liberia.
In a letter dated April 21, 2025, the LMDC stated that Mr. George did not submit an undergraduate medical degree or an internship certificate, both mandatory for licensure, despite repeated requests during a credential audit.
Instead, he submitted a letter claiming an MD from the University of Hertfordshire, UK.
However, the LMDC found this claim unverifiable, as the university does not currently offer a medical degree and is only planning to launch a medical program in 2026, pending regulatory approval.
Further raising concern, the Council noted inconsistencies in the timeline of Mr. George’s claimed medical training, which suggested completion of both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees within just four years; an academic feat deemed “not possible by any national or international standard.”
Based on these findings, the LMDC’s Credentials Committee unanimously recommended immediate revocation of George’s license.
The Council has also warned medical institutions against allowing him to practice, threatening legal action and possible closure for noncompliance.
In response, the Liberia Medical and Dental Association (LMDA) announced on May 7 that George, who served as its president, has been relieved of his duties.
As per the LMDA’s constitution, Second-Vice President Dr. Deddeh E.P. Supuwood will serve as acting president until further notice.
The LMDC has urged all licensed medical professionals in Liberia to submit updated credentials as part of an ongoing national audit aimed at ensuring the credibility and quality of healthcare practitioners.
