Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Sam A. Stevquoah has reaffirmed the Boakai administration’s support for the Law Reform Commission (LRC), saying the institution plays an important role in strengthening the rule of law in Liberia.
Stevquoah made the statement during a working visit to the Commission’s offices in Mamba Point on Wednesday, where he met with commissioners and staff.
He said he also delivered a message from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, who recognizes the Commission’s contribution to legal reform and national development.
“The President values the rule of law, and the Law Reform Commission has an important role to play in strengthening Liberia’s legal system,” Stevquoah said.
The Minister praised the Commission for its work and assured its leadership of the government’s continued support.
Following the visit, LRC Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah briefed reporters on the Commission’s ongoing work.
He said the LRC continues to review existing laws, draft new legislation, codify statutes, and support reforms in areas including gender and human rights.
Varmah said the Commission remains focused on updating Liberia’s laws to reflect current realities and improve the country’s legal system.
“Our responsibility is to review and reform the country’s laws so they continue to serve the interests of the Liberian people,” Varmah said.
He added that the Commission will continue working with other branches of government and development partners to advance legal reforms across the country.
