Motorcyclist Forwarded to Court for Attempted Murder and Armed Robbery

Matthew Kollie, a 23-year-old motorcyclist from Gbartala, has been forwarded to the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga for trial on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder and armed robbery.

According to the victim, Vesellee Kollie, the incident occurred on June 1, 2026, at about 12:00 noon when Matthew allegedly asked him to transport four tins of oil from Gbanala, a town located along the main road behind Gbartala.

Vesellee said that before they reached Gbanala, Matthew allegedly struck him from behind and later pulled out a knife. A struggle reportedly ensued as the two fought over the weapon.

During the confrontation, Vesellee sustained cuts to his foot, back, and other parts of his body.

The victim further stated that after a few minutes he lost consciousness and later found himself lying in a pit.

According to Veselee, Matthew Kollie was subsequently apprehended by fellow motorcyclists in Gbartala following the alleged attack.

When contacted, the accused, Matthew Kollie, admitted to attempting to attack Vesellee in an effort to take his motorcycle. However, he claimed that a day before the incident, some friends had given him an unusual substance to drink, which he said influenced his actions.

Bong County Crime Services Division (CSD) Commander James Kato confirmed that Matthew has been forwarded to court on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder and armed robbery.

Both the victim and the accused are motorcyclists operating from the Gbartala parking station in Yellequelleh District.
