MOVEE Rallies Behind Supreme Court Ruling, Pressures Pres. Boakai to Uphold Rule of Law

By Willie N. Tokpah

Monrovia – The Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), an opposition political party, has sounded a bold and unwavering call to the government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to uphold the rule of law by immediately enforcing the Supreme Court ruling that reinstates Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa is the legitimate Speaker of the House of Representatives.
In a detailed press statement released Thursday, MOVEE declared the ruling a “resounding victory” for justice, constitutionalism, and democratic integrity, while warning against executive silence or inaction.

Through its growing “Orange Revolution” advocacy platform, the party pledged to stand as a national watchdog, vowing to hold the Boakai administration accountable to its constitutional responsibilities.
“The Constitution is clear, and the Ruling is Final,” MOVEE said in a statement issued on Thursday; April 24.
MOVEE praised the Supreme Court for what it described as an “unambiguous and decisive” ruling in the Bill of Information filed by Speaker Koffa.
The decision, the party noted, not only reaffirms Koffa’s position as Speaker of the 55th Legislature but also sends a powerful message against what it called the “wanton violations of the Constitution” that have undermined public trust in recent months.

“The Supreme Court has spoken with clarity,” said MOVEE.
“This ruling must be upheld without conditions. It is not a suggestion. It is the law.”
MOVEE criticized the attempt to remove Speaker Koffa as unconstitutional and urged the House of Representatives to act within the boundaries of Articles 33 and 49 of the Liberian Constitution.
The party said it would continue to recognize Cllr. Koffa is the legitimate Speaker until all legal procedures are duly respected.

Orange Revolution: A Call for Justice and Accountability
Positioning itself as a champion of constitutional democracy, MOVEE reiterated its commitment to its “Orange Revolution” platform, an emerging national movement aimed at defending the Constitution, advancing the rule of law, and promoting good governance.
“Our Orange Revolution is not just about party politics, it is a people’s movement for justice and democratic accountability,” said Prince G. Mehn, National Chairman of MOVEE.
“We will speak out, mobilize, and advocate until every arm of government, including the Executive, respects the decisions of our courts and the laws of our land.”

MOVEE emphasized that the rule of law is the “foundational pillar” of Liberia’s democracy, and warned that any delay or reluctance by the Boakai administration to enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling would signal a troubling departure from the President’s oath of office.
“The Ball is in President Boakai’s Court”
The party’s leadership urged President Boakai to “unconditionally uphold and robustly enforce” the ruling of the nation’s highest court in keeping with his January 22, 2024, oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Liberia.

“This is a test of President Boakai’s commitment to constitutional governance,” said Mehn.
“He must rise above partisanship and prove that the rule of law, not political convenience, guides his administration.”
MOVEE also called for reconciliation among lawmakers, urging both the “Majority Bloc” and the “Rule of Law Caucus” to place national interest above political rivalry and forge a united front in the House of Representatives.
As the dust begins to settle on one of Liberia’s most contested legislative disputes in recent years, all eyes are now on President Boakai and the leadership of the House.

The ruling has significant implications, not just for the internal workings of the Legislature but also for Liberia’s broader democratic credibility.
MOVEE’s said it Orange Revolution promises to be a persistent voice in ensuring that constitutional violations are neither tolerated nor repeated.
With a growing base of support, the party appears poised to play a pivotal role in shaping national discourse on governance, legality, and institutional integrity in Liberia.
In the words of its National Chairman: “Liberia belongs to the people, not to a few who believe they can bend the law to suit their ambition. This is our stand. This is our Orange Revolution.”
