Nimba – The Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) has praised the people of Nimba County for the peaceful and inclusive conduct of the senatorial by-election held on April 22.
In a statement released Wednesday, WONGOSOL highlighted the significant role women and young people played in ensuring a violence-free democratic process.
According to the organization, the active participation of women—especially young women and grassroots peace advocates—was critical to the success of the election. Inter-generational efforts between youth and the Women Peace Huts in Nimba helped drive voter education, mobilization, and monitoring efforts.“This collaboration reflects the growing momentum toward sustained and meaningful women’s participation in decision-making processes at all levels,” WONGOSOL stated.
The group also commended the Government of Liberia and the Liberia Joint Security for maintaining order, and the National Elections Commission (NEC) for its effective management of the polls. With support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) through Kvinna till Kvinna, WONGOSOL was able to engage local stakeholders, including traditional leaders, religious figures, and youth, in dialogue around peaceful elections and political inclusion.

The organization also warned against the spread of misinformation, which could destabilize the peace.Reaffirming its commitment to democracy and the rights of citizens, WONGOSOL reminded the public of Article 77(b) of the Liberian Constitution, which guarantees every citizen the right to vote upon reaching the age of 18.WONGOSOL Executive Director Madam Esther S.
