Nagbe Calls for Scientific Investigation into Cletus Noah’s Death Amid Allegations

Monrovia, Liberia–Eugene Lenn Nagbe, Chief of Office Staff to former President George Manneh Weah, has called for a comprehensive police investigation, including a forensic autopsy, into the death of Cletus Noah.

His call follows serious allegations made against him by the deceased’s brother, Cain Tozo.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, May 12, after appearing before the Liberia National Police (LNP), Nagbe revealed that he had formally reported the accusations to the police.

“I came here today at the police’s request, following a complaint I filed in response to grave and unfounded allegations made by Mr. Cain Tozo, the brother of the late Mr. Cletus Noah,” Nagbe said.

He emphasized that the claims made by Tozo, accusing him of involvement in Noah’s death, are entirely baseless and without evidence. Given the seriousness of the accusations, Nagbe said he saw it fit to request a full-scale investigation.

“I asked the police to conduct a scientific autopsy to determine the true cause of death. That is the only objective way to uncover the facts,” he stated.

Nagbe also confirmed that the LNP has since instructed St. Moses Funeral Home to preserve Mr. Noah’s body while the investigation is underway.

He welcomed the decision and expressed appreciation for the seriousness with which the case is being handled.

Describing Mr. Noah as a friend and former government colleague, Nagbe recalled their last meeting in mid-April when they watched a football match together.

“He seemed healthy and full of life. I was shocked to hear of his sudden death,” he said.

He noted that the hospital where Noah reportedly died should be the starting point for investigators and reaffirmed the need for scientific scrutiny if foul play is suspected.

Nagbe also criticized the public nature of the allegations, which he said unjustly implicated others, including a former minister.

“I cannot determine the cause of death myself. All I ask is that the truth be established, through professional and scientific means,” he said.

Nagbe further disclosed that Mr. Tozo contacted him via WhatsApp on May 7, accusing him and others of being involved in Noah’s death.

According to Nagbe, Tozo also issued threatening messages, saying he should “wait for the burial” and that he was “coming for him.”

“These claims not only damage my reputation but also pose a serious threat to my personal safety,” Nagbe said, adding that he submitted screenshots and a transcript of the exchange to the police.

He urged the LNP to also speak with Tozo to determine the credibility and origin of the accusations. Nagbe believes that a thorough investigation will help clarify the situation and bring closure to the Noah family.

“As a public servant, I’ve faced many accusations, but this time, I’ve chosen to let the authorities handle it. Let us all support the pursuit of truth whenever there’s suspicion surrounding a death,” he said. “Justice must serve not only to protect the innocent but to ensure accountability where necessary.”

Nagbe concluded by expressing his trust in the Liberia National Police and thanking the press for giving him the chance to share his account.
