No Change in Gasoline and Diesel Prices, Say LPRC and MOCI

By: Emmanuel M. Karnga

Monrovia, Liberia–The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI), in collaboration with the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), has announced that fuel prices in Liberia will remain unchanged for the month of May.

The decision, made after a comprehensive review of market conditions, aims to maintain price stability and protect consumers amid global fuel price fluctuations.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry confirmed that both the wholesale and retail pump prices for gasoline (PMS) and diesel (AGO) will stay at current levels. The prices are as follows:

Gasoline (PMS):

  • Wholesale: $3.68 USD
  • Retail: $3.96 USD or LD 790.00
  • Fuel Oil (AGO):
  • Wholesale: $3.98 USD
  • Retail: $4.26 USD or LD 850.00

According to the Ministry release, the exchange rate applied for this pricing structure is LD 198.82 to USD 1.00, based on the Central Bank of Liberia’s rate as of April 29, 2025.

The Ministry emphasized that its Inspectorate Team, along with LPRC officials, will conduct strict market surveillance to ensure compliance with the regulated ceiling prices. Any attempt by importers, distributors, or retailers to exceed the set prices will be met with enforcement actions.

“The Ministry will also work closely with importers and retailers to ensure fair competition, discourage price undercutting, and uphold industry standards that serve the best interests of the Liberian people,” the release noted.

With fuel prices being a key driver of inflation, the government’s decision is seen as an effort to cushion the cost of living and maintain economic stability as the country recovers from past financial pressures.
