Monrovia, Liberia –In a unanimous response, the National Patriotic Party (NPP), Liberia People’s Democratic Party (LPDP), and People’s Unification Party (PUP) have strongly condemned recent threats of violence and instability made by certain opposition political parties.
The statement, issued on Monday, April 28, came after remarks by former Vice President Jewel H. Taylor, which were perceived as calls for chaos, and were publicly supported by leaders of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Alternative National Congress (ANC), Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), and Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) during a recent political gathering.
The joint declaration, made by the three parties, expressed concern over the growing rhetoric and warned of the consequences of such threats.
“We must remind these parties that Liberians are wary of conflict. To those of you advocating for instability in the Republic, know that you are not the only ones living in Liberia. We are here too, and we will resist any attempt to bring turmoil to our motherland,” stated Moses Kollie, Chairman of the LPDP, speaking on behalf of the group.
Kollie emphasized that the Liberian people are committed to maintaining peace, unity, and stability, rejecting any attempts to incite violence.
The LPDP, along with the NPP and PUP, made it clear that they stand in opposition to any force that seeks to destabilize the country.
The statement came in the wake of a meeting attended by former Vice President Taylor, a ranking member of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), along with other prominent opposition leaders, who cheered on Taylor’s controversial remarks.
Despite their criticisms, more than 20 opposition parties, as well as the ruling party, have separately condemned the calls for unrest.
Kollie, who was once a key ally of President George Weah and served as head of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue and national cooperation in shaping the future of Liberia.
The joint statement from the NPP, LPDP, and PUP serves as a reminder of the country’s collective commitment to preserving peace and rejecting divisive rhetoric.
