Monrovia – The Office of the Ombudsman has taken decisive action against the suspended head of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority, Emma Metieh-Glassco, by imposing a fine of five hundred United States dollars following findings of misconduct.
Cllr. Finley Kangar, Chairperson of the Ombudsman, announced the penalty after an inquiry determined that Madam Glassco had engaged in inappropriate behavior for a public official. The fine must be paid into government revenues within 72 hours, failing which enforcement measures will be pursued in line with legal provisions.
Investigators concluded that her actions demonstrated a pattern of insubordination and an outright disregard for the professional treatment of subordinates. The findings revealed that her leadership approach contravened ethical codes designed to uphold public service integrity. Employees dismissed under her tenure without just cause have been directed to present their cases to the NaFAA Board of Directors within 30 days for reconsideration.
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. had previously suspended Madam Glassco based on recommendations from NaFAA’s governing body, citing serious concerns about financial and administrative lapses within the institution. The President also acknowledged a report from the Office of the Ombudsman, highlighting her inappropriate conduct during an official proceeding, branding it as unacceptable for a senior government official.
The Ombudsman’s office has formally recommended that the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission initiate additional investigations into her conduct. Meanwhile, Madam Glassco has enlisted former Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh as her legal representative as the probe into her actions continues.
