Nimba County, Liberia – Liberia National Police (LNP) Inspector General Col. George O.W. Coleman has taken decisive action against highway patrol officers accused of soliciting bribes from motorists. The incident occurred on Friday, January 17, 2025, while Col. Coleman was traveling from Nimba County.
Witnessing the misconduct firsthand, Col. Coleman expressed dismay over the officers’ behavior, describing it as a betrayal of their duty to ensure road safety and security. “While on my way from Nimba, I observed highway patrol officers harassing drivers and accepting bribes,” Col. Coleman stated, calling the acts deeply concerning.
The Inspector General highlighted the importance of addressing such misconduct, which undermines public confidence in the police force. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding professional standards within the LNP. “Our primary focus remains on serving with honesty and integrity,” he emphasized. The officers implicated in the bribery scheme have been referred to the Professional Standards Division for disciplinary action. Col. Coleman assured the public of his administration’s unwavering dedication to restoring trust in the police, stressing that integrity and respect for the rule of law are non-negotiable principles.
