PUL Introduces New Journalist Registration and Accreditation Policy

The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has unveiled a new journalist registration and accreditation policy aimed at enhancing professionalism and ethical standards in the country’s media sector. The policy was announced during a press conference at PUL headquarters on March 18, marking a step in the Union’s efforts to foster accountability within the press.

PUL President Julius Kanubah emphasized that the initiative seeks to streamline membership registration for journalists, media professionals, and communication specialists across Liberia. He highlighted concerns over past membership disputes that have undermined the Union’s credibility and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to ensuring that only qualified journalists receive PUL identification.

To oversee the transition for the 2025-2026 membership cycle, a nine-member committee has been established to implement a structured and transparent registration process. The policy will require applicants to adhere to the Journalists’ Code of Conduct, accept the Journalism Creed, and demonstrate familiarity with PUL’s bylaws. A two-month registration period, set to begin in June 2025, will conclude with a provisional membership list for public review before the final roster is published.

Kanubah assured us that the process would be fair and impartial, warning against unqualified individuals who attempt to exploit membership benefits. An official email channel has been created to facilitate online applications.
