Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections after defeating businessman and politician Ned Nwoko in the party’s senatorial primary.
Okowa recorded a sweeping victory in the closely watched contest, polling 113,309 votes to defeat Nwoko, who secured 2,612 votes.
The outcome marks a major political comeback for the former Delta State governor and strengthens his standing within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 polls.
Nwoko, who has often attracted public attention because of his relationship with Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, suffered a heavy defeat despite his strong media presence and popularity.
Political observers noted that while Regina Daniels has frequently been seen supporting Nwoko publicly during past political activities and campaigns, her absence from the primary season sparked conversations among supporters and party loyalists, with some speculating that her influence and visibility may have previously helped boost his public appeal.
Party officials described the exercise as peaceful and transparent, as delegates across the district participated in the voting process.
