LIBERIA — A strong supporter of the government’s “Rescue Mission,” Varney Anasters Teah, alias “Strong Gbana Pekin,” has called on Liberia National Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman to recuse himself from ongoing drug-related investigations and resign from his position.
Teah’s call comes amid allegations circulating publicly that reportedly seek to link the Police Inspector General to individuals connected to an alleged drug cartel. The allegations have not been established in court.
In a statement, Teah said Coleman should step aside to protect the integrity and credibility of the ongoing investigation.
“At this point, and as a strong and committed Rescue Mission warrior, it is safe to say that the Police IG Gregory Coleman should recuse himself from the ongoing investigation and step down as IG of the Liberia National Police,” Teah stated.
He subsequently directed an appeal to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, saying, “Mr. President, the ball is in your court. The people are watching.”
The call adds to growing public demands for transparency and an independent investigation into allegations surrounding Liberia’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
