Residents of Picnicess are calling for urgent rehabilitation of the road leading to the community ahead of the 2026/27 Liberia National County Sports Meet, with Grand Kru set to host Group D matches involving Margibi and Bomi counties.
The road to Picnicess is reportedly in poor condition, raising concerns about the movement of players, officials, supporters and visitors expected to travel to the community during the competition.
With the County Meet scheduled for November, residents say they are concerned that little or no visible rehabilitation work has been carried out on the road despite the approaching tournament.
“This road needs immediate attention because we are expecting people from different parts of Liberia to come to Picnicess,” one resident said. “We do not want the condition of the road to become an embarrassment for Grand Kru.”
Another resident questioned whether the reported plan to begin rehabilitation around October 15 would allow enough time for the road to become properly passable before the County Meet.
“If the work starts on October 15, the authorities need to work seriously and tell the public when the road will be ready,” the resident said. “This is not only about football; people use this road every day.”
Residents are therefore urging the Grand Kru County authorities and relevant government agencies to provide a clear timeline for the rehabilitation and ensure that the work is completed before the arrival of teams and supporters.
The concerns come as Grand Kru prepares to welcome Margibi and Bomi for Group D action, placing additional attention on the county’s transportation infrastructure.
The key question now is whether rehabilitation will begin as reportedly planned on October 15 and whether the road can be made reliably passable before the November competition. They spoke to this paper on October 3, 2026 in Grand Kru.
Verity Online News will continue to follow the road situation and Grand Kru’s preparations for the County Meet.
