Maryland County Senator J. Gbleh-bo Brown has rejected allegations linking him to an ongoing drug investigation involving Liberia National Police Chief of Patrol Wadell Kwarbo.
In a statement issued Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the Senator’s Office described the claims made by Spoon Network Chief Executive Officer Stanton Whitherspoon as false, baseless, and politically motivated. The Office said the allegations were intended to damage the Senator’s reputation and distract from the ongoing investigation.
The controversy stems from a July 23 broadcast in which Whitherspoon allegedly claimed that Senator Brown is the father of Kwarbo, who is under investigation over allegations that he escorted illegal drugs in Monrovia.
Responding to the claim, the Senator’s Office clarified that Kwarbo is not Brown’s biological son but the younger brother of the Senator’s wife. According to the statement, Brown and his wife brought Kwarbo from Maryland County to Monrovia as a child and raised him until he became an adult.
The statement further noted that Kwarbo joined the Liberia National Police during the Security Sector Reform process under the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), years before Brown was elected to the Liberian Senate. It added that Kwarbo has lived independently with his own family for nearly 20 years.
While expressing concern over the allegations against Kwarbo, the Senator’s Office said it supports a full, fair, and transparent investigation to establish the facts.
The statement also reaffirmed Senator Brown’s opposition to drug trafficking, describing it as a serious threat to Liberia’s peace, security, and future. It called on Liberians to support lawful efforts to combat narcotics and cautioned against using the issue for political purposes.
“The fight against drugs is a national responsibility and should not be turned into a political contest,” the statement said.
