Senator Konneh Wants Justice Minister and Police IG Summoned Over Slow Pace of Capitol Building Fire Investigation

Gbapolu County Senator Amara Konneh has expressed concern over the slow progress of the investigation into the fire incident that affected the Capitol Building in late 2024, during the height of the House Leadership impasse.

In a formal communication to the Liberian Senate, Senator Konneh has called for the Minister of Justice and the Inspector General of Police to be summoned to provide a detailed update on the status of the investigation.

The lawmaker criticized the government’s delay in identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the damage, which significantly impacted a key area of the Capitol — the joint chamber where the President traditionally delivers the State of the Nation Address (SONA).

According to Senator Konneh, nearly six months have passed since the fire, which he believes is sufficient time for authorities to reach a logical conclusion regarding the cause and those accountable for the incident.
