MONROVIA – Two prominent political figures widely viewed as potential contenders for Sinoe County’s 2029 senatorial election have expressed contrasting reactions to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s recent decision to dismiss and suspend several government officials over ongoing narcotics investigations.
Senator Augustine Chea questioned the action in a brief social media post, stating, “So, so, ‘gbar-pleh!’—to borrow the words of President Samuel Doe’s Defense Minister, Maj. Gen. Gray D. Allison. But where are the Gortons?”
Former Senator J. Milton Teahjay, however, praised the President’s move, saying, “President Boakai has balls. People who were silent yesterday cannot be the loudest today. That’s hypocrisy. We commend the efforts of the president and the government.”
The differing reactions have sparked public debate over the government’s anti-drug campaign and accountability measures.
