Monrovia, Liberia – The Office of the Speaker of the 55th Legislature, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, has denied media reports suggesting he has fled Liberia due to threats against his life.
In a statement issued on March 10, 2025, Acting Chief of Staff Williette P. Cooper clarified that Speaker Koffa is currently on a private business trip that was planned well in advance and is unrelated to any security concerns.
The statement acknowledged the seriousness of the reported threats but assured the public that Speaker Koffa’s security team continuously monitors and addresses potential risks. It also emphasized the Speaker’s commitment to maintaining his safety despite what the office described as the “complete withdrawal of state security” under the administration of President Joseph Boakai.
“The Office of the Speaker remains committed to ensuring his safety and will continue to engage with the relevant authorities to address any potential security concerns,” the statement said.
Speaker Koffa’s office promised to keep the public informed on any developments regarding his security situation.
