Monrovia–Liberia: Renowned Human Rights Lawyer, Cllr Tiawan Gongloe, has hit at Vice President Jeremiah Koung over his instruction for the immediate release of the individual arrested by the Police for committing alleged Cyber Crime.
According to Cllr. Gongloe, the Vice President legally erred, emphasizing that neither the Vice President nor the President has the right or authority to interfere with a Criminal Justice Process, especially where a crime is not committed against an individual but the State.
He argued that once the Vice President in this case didn’t complain the individual to the Police but got arrested by the Police, it was with the Police to release the person based on its investigation, as the Vice President has no authority to demand the Individual’s release while in law enforcement custody.
Cllr. Gongloe stressed that no one individual in Liberia controls the law, least to say the President, noting that the President only acts by pardoning Individuals after the law renders a judgement, but not prior to the Judgment.
Meanwhile, Cllr. Gongloe averred that the recent move by the Police and that of the Vice President raises the suspicion that the Cyber Crime Law is only meant to shield higher ups.
