Verity News, with its commitment to protecting public interests and advancing an enlightened society, launched this segment aimed at utilizing public records and data to inform and educate the Liberian populace.
Scheduled for Mondays and Fridays, this addition aligns with the outlet’s dedication to truth, facts, and public awareness.
Drawing from esteemed repositories like the Library of Congress, University of Indiana Library, and UNESCO, Verity Online News including The Town Square now has full access over 370,000 public documents spanning from 1828 to 2000.
This treasure trove includes reports, records, minutes, correspondences, and manuscripts.
In its inaugural edition, “From the Archive” unearthed a letter penned by the Government of Liberia in 1950, seeking a $6.5 million USD loan from the Export-Import Bank of the United States of America.
Under President William V. S. Tubman’s administration, the loan was earmarked for ambitious projects which included a Hydro-electric Plant and Transmission System:$4,000,000, Water and Sewerage Disposal System: $1,550,000, Highway Improvement and Construction:$4,000,000
Despite the projects’ total estimated cost of $9.55 million, Tubman sought a loan of $6.5 million, indicating that the government already possessed $3.05 million towards the initiatives.
