Former Representative of Nimba County electoral District #4 Cllr. Garrison Doldeh Yealue Jr. has criticized the Unity Party-led government in a Facebook post over recent drug seizures in Liberia, raising concerns about the ability of state security institutions to prevent narcotics from entering the country.
In his Facebook post, Yealue accused the UP of applying a different standard in its response to drug-related cases, recalling criticism the party made against the previous administration after a major drug shipment was intercepted at a port of entry.
“When the previous administration intercepted $100 million in illegal drugs right at the port of entry before a single package could breach the border, the Unity Party screamed from the rooftops, blaming the government for the shipment’s very existence,” Yealue said.
He argued that the discovery of narcotics inside local facilities points to possible weaknesses in Liberia’s border and security systems, questioning why illegal substances were not detected before entering the country.
“Drugs aren’t being stopped at the gate anymore; they are casually taking a stroll straight into domestic warehouses while our national security apparatus acts as glorified spectators,” he stated.
Yealue said government authorities should place more emphasis on strengthening prevention measures rather than celebrating seizures made after illegal substances have already reached communities.
“You don’t get to claim victory for catching a thief inside your bedroom when it was your job to lock the front gate,” he added.
The former lawmaker also accused the Unity Party of facing the same criticism it once directed at its political opponents, warning that past political attacks can eventually return to those who make them.
“When you throw dirt at someone, wind has a way of blowing it right back into your eyes,” Yealue concluded.
The government has not yet issued a response to Yealue’s comments. Security authorities continue investigations into recent drug-related cases and have maintained that efforts are ongoing to identify and prosecute individuals involved in illicit trafficking.
