$78K Bank Heist: Monrovia Court Issues Flee Ban on Custodian

The Monrovia City Court has taken a significant legal step by issuing a Writ of Ne Exeat Republica against Fabrizo C. Siryon, a former vault custodian at GT Bank. Siryon is accused of absconding with US$78,250.00 (Seventy-Eight Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty United States Dollars).

This writ, which translates to “let him not go out of the republic,” aims to prevent Siryon from fleeing Liberia amid the allegations.

GT Bank initiated the writ, expressing concerns that Siryon intended to escape to another country. Judge Ben Barco, in his mandate to the court sheriff, ordered that Siryon be arrested and detained until he provides a valid bond and security. This legal measure ensures that Siryon remains within the jurisdiction to face the charges against him.

Despite the court’s actions, reports indicate that Siryon may have already fled the country to evade justice. The Monrovia City Court had previously issued a writ of arrest for Siryon after GT Bank lodged a complaint against him for theft of property.

Ikenna Anekwe, GT Bank’s Managing Director, detailed that Siryon, while employed as the bank’s vault custodian, allegedly stole the substantial sum without the bank’s consent and subsequently went into hiding.

The bank accused Siryon of converting the stolen funds for his personal use, intending to deprive GT Bank of its assets.

The court, in its arrest writ, highlighted that Siryon’s actions were unlawful, criminal, and intentional, violating Section 15.51 of the New Penal Law of Liberia.

This section pertains to theft and the misappropriation of funds. The court ordered Siryon’s arrest to ensure he appears before the court to address the serious allegations levied against him by GT Bank.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the Monrovia City Court remains vigilant in ensuring that justice is served, emphasizing the importance of accountability and legal compliance in financial institutions.

The case underscores the broader issue of financial crimes and the measures necessary to prevent and address such offenses.
