In a statement delivered on behalf of the Caucus, Representative Bility described the events as unlawful and dangerous. He accused Representative Kolleh and his group of individuals of storming the Capitol, vandalizing the Speaker’s office, and engaging in actions that desecrated the premises. According to Bility, the eviction was carried out without any legal authority or court order, an act he deemed reckless and a direct threat to the security and stability of the country.
“Today, while Liberians are celebrating Armed Forces Day and welcoming the Head of State of Sierra Leone, Representative Kolleh, leading a group of individuals, has unlawfully stormed the Capitol, vandalized the Speaker’s office, and desecrated it—all in an attempt to evict him without any court order or legal authority,” Bility said.
Bility’s statement emphasized the gravity of the situation, urging President Joseph Boakai to address the actions of Kolleh and his group immediately. He warned that such behavior undermines the rule of law and could potentially lead to a crisis that spirals out of control. The Rule of Law Caucus called on the President to take swift action to prevent further escalation and ensure that individuals responsible for the unlawful eviction are held accountable.
“These actions are dangerous, undermine the rule of law, and create a potential crisis that could spiral out of control,” Bility added. “We also call on the Minister of Justice to hold these individuals accountable. Their reckless conduct suggests they may have received assurances to act with impunity.”
The Caucus emphasized that no such lawlessness has ever been tolerated in the history of Liberia’s democracy. Bility urged the government, the international community, religious leaders, and civil society organizations to intervene and demand an end to this unlawful conduct.
“We urge the President, the Cabinet, the international community, the Religious Council, the Council of Churches, the Muslim Council, and all stakeholders to intervene and demand an immediate end to this act of lawlessness,” Bility stated.
In closing, the Rule of Law Caucus vowed to pursue legal action against Representative Kolleh for his role in the unlawful eviction. Bility clarified that Kolleh would face the full consequences of his actions, describing the eviction as “violent, unlawful, and uncivilized.”
