CSA Moves to Block Salaries of Suspended Officials for Failing to Declare Assets

MONROVIA – The Civil Service Agency (CSA) has moved swiftly to enforce President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s suspension of government officials who failed to declare their assets, implementing strict financial penalties to compel compliance.

In a directive issued Wednesday, February 12, 2025, CSA Director General Josiah F. Joekai notified all government spending entities that salaries for suspended officials will be withheld until they meet the asset declaration requirements. The agency emphasized that failure to comply with the mandate will result in an indefinite salary freeze, reinforcing the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on transparency violations.

The CSA’s directive also requires all affected officials to surrender government properties under their control immediately. Institutions have been instructed to facilitate the transition of these assets to designated personnel, ensuring that state resources remain properly managed despite the suspensions.

President Boakai’s decision to take disciplinary action came after repeated warnings to public officials. A final directive issued on November 27, 2024, granted a ten-day extension for asset declarations, yet several officials failed to comply. The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), tasked with monitoring compliance, compiled and submitted a list of violators, prompting the president’s immediate response.

The suspension, which applies without pay for one month or until compliance is met, serves as a warning to all government officials. President Boakai highlighted the critical role of asset declaration in fostering transparency and accountability. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to combating corruption, stressing that no official will be exempt from the law’s requirements.
