Monrovia, Liberia – Opposition Lawmaker Representative Sumo Mulbah is urging Liberians to boycott the much-publicized July 17 protest organized by the Solidarity Trust for a New Day (STAND), calling it ill-timed and politically motivated.
STAND declared July 17, 2025, as “The Day of the People” and is mobilizing a nationwide protest under the theme “Enough is Enough.”
The group cites growing corruption, worsening economic conditions, and overall government failure as the key reasons for the demonstration.
Various groups, including students, market women, farmers, civil servants, and transport workers, are expected to participate.
However, Representative Mulbah criticized the planned action, arguing that the current administration is yet to reach the halfway point of its six-year mandate and should be given more time to deliver on its promises.
Sumo, who is also a member of the opposition community described the protest as a politically charged initiative designed to serve the interests of its organizers rather than address genuine national concerns.
Mulbah also warned citizens about potential violence and unrest, linking the protest organizers to past incidents of chaos.
The Montserrado County lawmaker emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and urged the public to reject the call to demonstrate, adding that the time for accountability will come at the appropriate stage in the government’s term.
The debate over the July 17 protest continues to spark political tension, with supporters defending their right to speak out and critics like Mulbah calling for restraint and patience.
