Monrovia, Liberia- Following the ruling by the Supreme Court, the owner of the property housing the headquarters of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) in Congo Town has given the party until June 10, 2025, to completely vacate the premises.
Acting through his legal counsel, Cllr. J. Johnny Momoh, the property owner has served formal notice to CDC Chairman Atty. Janga A. Kowo, instructing that the facility be vacated by the stated deadline or the party risks forced eviction.
This latest development follows a protracted legal dispute, dating far back as 2016, now resolved in favor of the property owner.
According to court documents, the Supreme Court’s decision has cleared the way for legal enforcement should the CDC fail to comply.
The looming eviction raises significant questions about the future of one of Liberia’s most prominent political institutions.
With just days remaining before the deadline, political analysts and party loyalists alike are asking: Where will the CDC go next?
The party has yet to issue an official statement in response to the eviction notice. However, sources close to the leadership suggest urgent internal consultations are ongoing regarding possible relocation sites.
The CDC has used the Congo Town property as its national headquarters for nearly two decades, serving as a hub for rallies, press briefings, and party operations. Any forced relocation, observers say, could disrupt the party’s organizational rhythm and public visibility.
Meanwhile, party supporters have been seen gathering at the premises, some expressing dismay over the situation, while others remain hopeful that the issue will be resolved without confrontation.
The Ministry of Justice and Liberia National Police have not commented on potential enforcement measures after the June 10 deadline. However, under Liberian law, once a court ruling is final, eviction orders may be carried out without further judicial intervention.
As the deadline draws near, all eyes are on the CDC- a political movement that once dominated national politics- to see how it will navigate this pivotal moment.
